It appears that one local racing fan has taken the ultimate joy ride.

The pace car at Meridian Speedway was stolen on the morning of June 4 and has not been found, according to a spokesperson for the Meridian Police Department.

The 2018 Chevrolet Corvette should be easy to spot, with a silver exterior, and green and yellow stripes along each side. It also has a logo for Fairly Reliable Bob’s auto dealership, which is sponsoring the pace car this season.

“Tuesday morning we came to work and it was not here,” said Josie Nelson, Meridian Speedway’s office administrator.

The speedway is offering a reward for help locating the vehicle.

“Help Meridian Speedway find its wayward Corvette before this weekend’s Diamond Cup race, and you could win a season pass, plus a family’s worth of tickets for one event of your choosing,” according to a Facebook post.

Anyone with information about the stolen pace car is asked to call the Meridian Police Department’s non-emergency line at 208-888-6678.
