Roughly two days after a reportedly suicidal man was shot and injured, authorities have identified the shooter’s law enforcement agency.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident early Saturday morning, and a deputy with the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office was who shot the 19-year-old, according to a news release Monday from the Caldwell Police Department, which is leading the investigation as a part of the Canyon County Critical Incident Task Force.

At around 1:53 a.m., the sheriff’s department received a call about a suicidal man at a home near Parma, but law enforcement did not locate him until 3:35 a.m, the release said. The man fled in a vehicle, and deputies, along with officers from the Wilder and Parma police departments, were part of the pursuit, the release said.

Once the pursuit ended, the deputy fired their weapon and injured the man. Authorities declined to say what caused the deputy to shoot and have not said whether the man had a weapon.

The man, who hasn’t been identified, was taken to a Boise hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release. Authorities declined to say whether he has been released from the hospital.

The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office has sent potential charges against the man to prosecutors, the release said.

The deputy, who hasn’t been identified, was placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
