A 39-year-old was arrested Friday evening after allegedly crashing a vehicle into a building and then firing multiple shots toward Boise Police Department officers.

At about 4:30 p.m. Friday, Boise police responded to the 700 block of Curtis Road for a report of a vehicle crashing into the HVAC unit of a building. Police said in a news release that the driver, Justin Malek, intentionally crashed into the building, got out of the vehicle and threatened a bystander with a large chain.

Police said Malek then fired multiple gunshots toward officers, who “created a distance” between themselves and him. Officers made contact with the suspect, who “quickly complied and surrendered,” according to the BPD release.

Officers said they went through a nearby neighborhood to ensure that no one was hit by the gunfire. Police reported no injuries to Malek, bystanders or officers.

Malek was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, battery upon certain personnel and malicious injury to property, jail records show. All are felonies.
