Jeremy Waste, 30, the man shot and arrested by police Monday night after they said he threatened a Boise officer with a knife, faces four criminal charges, prosecutors said in court Tuesday.

Ada County Deputy Prosecutor Garrett Swenson said at an arraignment hearing that Boise police officers had been looking for Waste since he allegedly stabbed his father in the neck six or seven times on Friday. His father was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a press release.

Police were also investigating his possible involvement in an attempted bank robbery Monday morning, Swenson said.

On Monday evening, police located Waste in southeast Boise, and they said he tried to flee. Swenson said in court that Waste yelled that he wanted to get shot and charged at an officer. Officers made several attempts to reposition themselves to keep a police vehicle in between because Waste was holding a knife, Swenson said.

“It seems like police were doing everything they could to avoid any kind of physical altercation with the defendant,” Swenson said.

One officer shot and injured Waste, who was taken to a hospital and then booked into the Ada County Jail, Interim Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar said at a press conference Monday night. Waste arrived at his arraignment with one arm in a cast.

Waste’s bond was set at $300,000 for the alleged attack on his father and at $1.5 million for the charges related to Monday night’s altercation with police.

Prosecutors say suspect poses danger to the community

Swenson said Waste poses danger “to both himself and his family, as well as to law enforcement and other members of the community.” The prosecutor said Waste has made threats to kill his father and has access to guns.

“He’s repeatedly shown his willingness to commit violent injury on those close to him and also on people that he doesn’t know in law enforcement,” Swenson said.

Ada County Magistrate Judge Michael Lodek signed a no-contact order to prevent Waste from coming into contact with his father and stepmother.

Waste faces a felony aggravated battery charge for allegedly attacking his father, and is charged with felony aggravated assault upon certain personnel in Monday night’s incident. He also faces two enhancements for use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, according to court records.

Court records show no charges for any alleged involvement in an attempted bank robbery.

He has preliminary hearings scheduled for Dec. 2 and Dec. 5.
