Idaho woman arrested, to face murder charge. Caldwell police say she shot her grandfather
A woman was arrested Friday in the fatal shooting of her 81-year-old grandfather Thursday night, according to a Caldwell Police Department news release.
Esmeralda Ahumada, 34, of Caldwell, was taken to the Canyon County jail and booked on suspicion of first-degree murder Friday at about 1:30 p.m., according to online arrest records.
Police responded at 9:36 p.m. Thursday to a report of a man with a possible gunshot wound, and officers arrived at a residence in the 2500 block of Rawhide Drive in Caldwell to find a man who “appeared to have been shot once in the chest,” the release said. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
“Officers received information from other people in the residence that the deceased male’s granddaughter” shot him and then fled, police said.
Caldwell police officers eventually took custody of Ahumada at West Valley Medical Center, according to the release. Detectives are working with the Nampa Police Department’s crime lab team as part of the investigation, the release said.
