Meridian Police identify ‘dangerous’ fugitive they are pursuing, seek public’s help
After taking one suspect into custody, the Meridian Police Department is still looking for a male fugitive who fled from law enforcement Thursday morning and got away near the Paramount Subdivision, briefly causing two schools to be placed in lockdown.
In a news release Thursday afternoon, police said they are requesting the public’s help in finding Cody Rose, 30, who was involved in a pursuit that originated in Canyon County with a traffic stop.
Police spokesperson Kelsey Johnston told the Idaho Statesman by phone that Meridian police took over a vehicle pursuit from Canyon County deputies “when it entered the boundaries of the city” and isolated a suspect to the Paramount Subdivision, off of Chinden Boulevard in between Linder and Meridian roads.
Both Rocky Mountain High School and Paramount Elementary School were placed on lockdown, Johnston said, which is a standard procedure that she called a “precautionary measure.” By 1:04 p.m. the schools were removed from lockdown, according to police on Twitter.
A 40-year-old woman who was said to be a passenger in Rose’s vehicle was arrested when she tried to flee the area in an Uber, according to the Meridian Police news release. She was taken into custody on suspicion of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and a warrant on a parole violation.
Police said Rose was driving a late 1990s Chevrolet Tahoe SUV that had been spray-painted black and had a maroon hood, a broken rear window and a Payette County license plate. He is suspected of being “armed and dangerous,” police said.
Anyone with information on the pursuit or Rose should contact the Meridian Police Department at 208-846-7300.
Johnston said a rumor of an active shooter in the area when the schools were on lockdown was not true.
