Armed standoff near Boise ends with beanbag rounds deployed, Ada Sheriff’s Office says
A standoff with an armed man who was a suspect in a domestic violence complaint south of Boise ended on Thursday afternoon when authorities used beanbag rounds to “subdue” him, said Patrick Orr, a spokesperson for the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence assault, according to the Ada County Jail website.
The standoff occurred at a home near the intersection of West Trestlewood Street and Five Mile Road, in unincorporated Ada County, according to a tweet from the sheriff’s office posted shortly before 2 p.m.
Deputies responded to the home at around 10:45 a.m. after a report of a domestic disturbance, Orr said in an email. A second person in the home came outside and told police that the suspect was inside with “a rifle and some other guns, and would not want to come out or talk to law enforcement,” according to Orr.
The standoff lasted until after 2 p.m., when the suspect agreed to come out.
“Once he did come out, he wasn’t compliant,” Orr said in the email. “He walked out initially but then refused to move or listen to any commands. Our deputies then used less lethal rounds to subdue him and then they arrested him.”
Orr said the suspect did not have a firearm with him when he exited the home, but deputies confirmed there was a rifle in the home.
