Boise police officers shoot man after investigating case of missing boy

Breaking News

Boise police shot a man Sunday after officers confronted him near the intersection of Eyrie Way and 36th Street. The man was believed to be involved with an endangered teenager.

Officers were notified of a reported child abduction in Boise near State and North streets on Sunday afternoon, according to a news release from the Boise Police Department.

The suspect, who was not identified by name in the news release, reportedly entered a home and left with a 14-year-old boy. Police believed the boy was in “immediate danger.”

The Boise Police Department earlier said in a series of tweets that officers were looking for Mohamud Hassan Mkoma, a man connected to a missing 14-year-old boy identified only as Salayman.

Around the time an Amber Alert was set to be issued, police found the reported suspect’s car in the area of the alleged abduction. At 6:25 p.m., police tried to pull over the car, but it sped away. Boise police say a person inside the car matched the description of the 14-year-old.

Officers executed a PIT maneuver, which involves an officer using their car to hit the tail end of someone’s car in the hopes of making it turn around to disable it.

Details of the shooting were scarce, and no update was provided Monday, but BPD said in the release that officers “confronted the suspect” and, because of the “immediate danger presented by the suspect,” officers fired their guns.

Officers performed first aid on the suspect after the shooting, according to the release.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, but his condition was not released. Police say the boy was medically evaluated and is safe. No officers were injured in the shooting.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force will conduct the investigation, which will be led by members of the Garden City Police Department.
