Idaho man arrested, booked after ‘unprovoked’ stabbing in Boise, police say

A Garden City man is in jail after police say he stabbed another man in an “unprovoked” attack on Thursday night in Boise.

Robert Joseph, 49, was booked into the Ada County Jail at around 5:30 a.m. Friday on one felony count of aggravated battery and a misdemeanor charge of resisting or resisting officers.

At around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to a call of a fight and stabbing in the 500 block of S. 13th Street, according to a news release from the Boise Police Department. Officers found a person with stab wounds who was quickly taken to a local hospital.

BPD says the injuries were non-life-threatening. After an investigation, police said they believe that the suspect attacked the victim despite not being provoked.

Police say they quickly located Joseph at the scene. Officers described his behavior as “erratic” and reported that he acted unpredictably. Joseph allegedly “began to aggress” toward a police officer, causing another officer to fire a Taser at him.

Joseph was taken into custody and continued to struggle with officers, police said. Before being booked into jail, he was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. As of Friday afternoon, Joseph was still in custody at the Ada County Jail.

Online court records do not show charges filed as of Friday afternoon.
