Police arrest Idaho man after domestic violence call leads to car chase in Meridian
Police in Meridian arrested an Idaho man Monday morning after a domestic violence call led to a car chase.
Jacob Charles Miller, a 24-year-old from Ammon, was booked into the Ada County Jail on one count of fleeing or attempt to elude a police officer in a motor vehicle, a felony, according to online jail records.
According to a news release from the Meridian Police Department, Miller is also facing a misdemeanor count of domestic battery and has a felony probation violation warrant issued by the Idaho Department of Corrections.
Officers were dispatched to a Meridian home at around 9:15 a.m. Monday after dispatchers learned of an alleged domestic violence in progress outside of a business near the intersection of Eagle and Overland roads. A bystander called police.
Police say the suspect, whom they say is Miller, and another person were seen leaving from the scene in a red Mitsubishi, and officers later found the car driving north on Locust Grove and Ustick roads.
When officers tried to pull the car over, the driver sped up and “accelerated to speeds between 65 and 85 miles per hour,” police say. The car went east toward Eagle Road.
Police deployed spike strips, which popped at least one of the car’s tires and limited the police chase to around 35 mph. This didn’t stop the car, however, which kept going toward Meridian Road and Chinden Boulevard.
It was near that intersection where police used a PIT (pursuit intervention technique) maneuver, where a police vehicle hits a rear part of a suspect’s vehicle in order to spin the car around and stop it.
The suspect was quickly arrested by Meridian officers and taken to the Ada County Jail.
As of Monday afternoon, Miller was still in custody.
