Police: Men ‘playing with fireworks’ cause fire inside Boise apartment building

Three men are facing potential criminal charges after police say they lit fireworks inside a Boise apartment as part of a “game.”

Idaho police and fire crews were dispatched about 1:30 a.m. Friday to a call of a fire inside an apartment in the 1000 block of West Royal Boulevard in Boise, according to a news release from the Boise Police Department.

The apartment’s sprinklers were able to quell the fire before it spread, but the entire building had to be evacuated for roughly an hour because of smoke. No injuries were reported. Only one apartment had fire and water damage.

After further investigation, police believe that three men were “playing a game when they lit a firework off inside their apartment,” according to the news release.

Police sent the case to the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office to screen for potential charges.

“Boise Police and Boise Fire would like to remind everyone of the dangers and criminal charges that can result from playing with or misusing fireworks,” the departments wrote in the news release.
