A Boise man faces two felony charges after he reportedly fled from police attempting to pull him over for a suspected DUI on Saturday, according to a news release from the Nampa Police Department.

Jeffrey M. Elkins, 49, is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and attempting to flee an officer in a motor vehicle. If he’s found guilty of both charges, he could lose driving privileges for up to three years and face prison time.

Nampa police said around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday they attempted to stop Elkins, who was driving a gray 2000 Chevy Tahoe, because they suspected he may have been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They initially tried to stop Elkins at 11th Avenue South and 2nd Street South.

Elkins reportedly fled eastbound on Interstate 84, reaching speeds up to 90 mph. He began heading towards Downtown Boise on Interstate 184 when police deployed a spike strip. When that tactic didn’t work, police used a PIT maneuver to stop Elkins’ vehicle on I-184 near the Cole Road exit.

Police said there was another individual in the vehicle with Elkins, but that person has not been publicly identified.
