Idaho woman dead, Caldwell man in jail after fatal motorcycle crash early Thursday

A woman is dead and a man is in jail following a motorcycle crash that happened early Thursday morning in Canyon County.

At around 12:30 a.m., Idaho State Police troopers were dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Cherry Lane and Middleton Road, according to a news release from Idaho State Police.

Troopers found that a motorcycle with two people on it had crashed after the driver failed to appropriately take a curve in the road.

The passenger, identified by police as 27-year-old Nampa resident Carla Rosas, was declared dead at the scene. Apollo Martinez, a 32-year-old Caldwell man, was reportedly the driver of the motorcycle when it crashed. He was taken to a Nampa hospital via ambulance.

Later, Martinez was taken into police custody on a vehicular manslaughter charge and resisting and obstructing officers.

As of Thursday morning, police said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. They are still investigating.

Martinez was booked into the Canyon County jail just after 1 a.m., according to online booking records.
