Driver who killed elderly Boise couple in crosswalk sentenced to probation, no jail time
A magistrate judge on Monday sentenced the driver who fatally struck an elderly couple in a Boise crosswalk last year to two years of probation and 120 hours of community service.
Christopher Lammey, 36, of Meridian, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for killing Florence and Bob Goar. The second count he was charged with was dismissed pursuant to a plea agreement.
Florence Goar, 87, died at the scene of the Feb. 27, 2019, crash. Bob Goar, 89, died about nine days later. They were hit in the crosswalk just before 5 p.m. on Milwaukee Street at West Northview Street.
Ada County Magistrate Judge Michael Oths sentenced Lammey to two years of unsupervised probation and 365 days in jail, but Oths suspended all but 15 of those days, according to online court records. Rather than impose 15 days in jail custody, Lammey will serve 120 hours of community service.
Should Lammey violate his probation, the remaining 350 days could be imposed. His driver’s license will be suspended for one year.
The Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office declined to file felony charges against Lammey and forwarded the case to the Boise city prosecutors for the misdemeanor prosecution.
The Goars’ family members spoke with the Idaho Statesman last year. The Goars were fatally injured less than a quarter-mile from the home they lived in for 46 years, where they raised two daughters.
