Jim E. Neaderhiser, 48, has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for the exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

Neaderhiser was convicted in a jury trial in November 2019. He fled after the conviction and received two failure to appear charges for not showing up at scheduled court hearings. He was taken back into custody in 2020 and sentenced April 22 by 4th District Judge Thomas F. Neville to up to 10 years. Neaderhiser will be eligible for parole after 18 months.

“This case raises awareness about elder abuse crimes. The Boise Police Department’s hard work in this investigation allowed my office to ensure that justice was served,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan M. Bennetts in a press release sent by the prosecutor’s office.

Neaderhiser and his then-fiancee, Linda “Deann” Bassett, had been financially exploiting the elderly victim, who was known to them, for a number of years prior to their arrest in April 2018, prosecutors said. The two defendants gained access to the victim’s finances and began to travel, fund businesses and pay legal expenses.

While the victim was living in terminal care, the co-defendants continued to exploit the man, including taking out home equity loans on the victim’s residence.

Bassett pleaded guilty to exploitation of a vulnerable adult in early 2019 and was sentenced to up to 10 years.
