Idaho man charged in Caldwell restaurant robbery, attempted Nampa bank robbery
A Caldwell man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection to two robberies, according to a press release from the Caldwell Police Department.
The suspect, Joel Martinez, 40, is accused of robbing a Jack in the Box on Ustick Road in Caldwell and of attempting to rob a Nampa bank earlier in the day. He was charged with armed robbery and burglary in the Caldwell case and transported to the Canyon County jail, the release said. The Nampa Police Department is investigating and additional charges may follow.
Caldwell police responded to the Jack in the Box call at approximately 12:10 p.m. Wednesday. Martinez reportedly took cash from the register after displaying a knife to the employees. Multiple officers were already in the area due to the attempted bank robbery, and it was reported that the man in that case had fled in a car similar to one seen after the restaurant robbery, police said.
A Caldwell police officer spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop less than a mile from the Jack in the Box, according to the release. Officers said they located multiple items linking Martinez to both the Caldwell robbery and the Nampa bank incident.
