Following 4-hour standoff, Boise man arrested on domestic abuse, rape charges
Boise Police responded to a domestic disturbance call early Wednesday morning that resulted in a long standoff and eventual arrest of a male suspect.
Neil Bunker, 45, of Boise, was charged with four felonies after surrendering to police: first-degree kidnapping, rape, attempted strangulation and domestic battery.
According to a Boise Police Department press release, officers responded to a home near the intersection of Dorian and Hervey streets at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and found a female victim in the front yard. Police said she had been attacked and sexually assaulted, and she was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
She had fled the home and was able to call police from a neighbor’s house, according to the release.
Bunker, who police said is known to the victim, defied orders to come out of the house and barricaded himself inside. A perimeter was set up and members of the BPD Special Operations Unit responded, the release said. Crisis negotiators tried to speak with the suspect, but he continued to refuse, police said. After about four hours, he surrendered without further incident and was taken to the Ada County Jail.
Whitney Elementary was briefly in shelter-in-place mode Wednesday morning because it is near the residence where the standoff occurred.
