California man arrested in Boise parking garage crash that left 11 vehicles damaged

Demariea L. Dawkins, 27, of Livermore, California, was arrested Wednesday and charged in Friday night’s wild Boise parking garage crash that left 11 other vehicles damaged.

Dawkins was charged with malicious injury to property, a felony, and also was arrested on a so-called agent’s warrant, which is a felony. He was charged with four misdemeanors: reckless driving, failure to notify upon striking an unattended vehicle, possession of an open container of alcohol and failure to notify upon striking fixtures.

An agent’s warrant can be issued for a probationer or parolee for almost any reason.

Authorities had been searching for Dawkins since the weekend, but believed he had left town and was possibly near Idaho City, according to a Boise Police Department press release. Working alongside the Boise County Sheriff’s Office, police located Dawkins and took him into custody.

At around 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, BPD officers responded to a multiple hit-and-run accident in a parking garage on S. 9th Street. A yellow Ford Mustang was descending the garage when it struck and dragged a pickup truck several meters. The car also hit 10 other vehicles before the driver, believed to be Dawkins, fled the scene in his badly damaged car.

Officers eventually found the suspect’s vehicle abandoned near W. Eastover Terrace, and there was damage to a light pole and a traffic control sign, according to the press release.

Dawkins is the registered owner of the Mustang, police said.

Dawkins was transported to the Ada County Jail on Wednesday, where he was booked.
