Police: Idaho man found with half-pound of heroin in vehicle, suspected of trafficking
Idaho State Police arrested a man accused of having a half-pound of heroin in his vehicle on Wednesday morning, and he was booked into jail for alleged drug trafficking.
Troopers said they stopped Gustavo Sanchez at around 5 a.m. on Interstate 84 in Canyon County, north of Caldwell, on a traffic violation. Sanchez, 41, of Nampa, was the only person in the vehicle. A Nampa Police Department K-9 responded to the stop and found the suspected drug, ISP said.
Officers also located an illegal sawed-off shotgun in the vehicle during a search, according to a tweet from ISP.
ISP Sgt. Curt Sproat said the case is still under investigation, but explained that for a suspect to be charged with “trafficking” heroin, they must possess more than 2 grams. Sanchez was allegedly in possession of more than 215 grams, which Sproat called “a substantial amount of heroin.”
Sanchez was booked into the Canyon County jail, where he remained on Wednesday morning.
