Eagle Chamber of Commerce board member charged with felony grand theft

Stephanie M. Kjerstad, who is on the board of directors for the Eagle Chamber of Commerce, was arrested Sunday and charged with felony grand theft.

Her arrest followed an investigation that began in October, Ryan Larrondo, police information specialist with the Boise Police Department, wrote in an email Wednesday. An unnamed business reported that an employee stole “several thousand dollars” in late September, Larrondo said.

Boise Police’s fraud unit found evidence that the employee directed the victim to issue a check that was owed to the business to the employee instead. Kjerstad allegedly accepted that money but failed to give it to the business.

The case was forwarded to the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued for felony grand theft. Kjerstad was arrested at her Star-area home by Ada County sheriff’s deputies, a department spokesman confirmed. The bond was listed at $10,000.

Jennifer Stutheit, the executive director of the Eagle Chamber of Commerce, confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Kjerstad was still on the board. She had not heard of the arrest before receiving a call from the Statesman and said she would look into it further.
