Driver flees officers in downtown Boise, nearly hitting pedestrian, police say

Boise Police arrested a man on Thursday afternoon who they say was speeding and driving recklessly in downtown Boise, and then tried to flee police.

Police responded at around 2:20 p.m. to the area of Cooper and 16th streets after bike patrol officers signaled a driver to stop, but the driver indicated that he wouldn’t stop, according to BPD spokeswoman Haley Williams.

Police say 52-year-old Dominic Scilipote, of Middleton, drove away recklessly. He allegedly drove down an alley and almost hit a pedestrian with a walker. The pedestrian later told police that he feared for his life, according to Williams.

Scilipote eventually was stopped near 27th Street and Fairview Avenue, but he continued to defy police commands, Williams said. Traffic was shut down in the area for about 20 minutes while police secured the area. More officers responded, and Scilipote was taken into custody.

He was booked into Ada County Jail on suspicion of felony aggravated assault, felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor reckless driving, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remained in jail on Friday morning.
