Man charged with DUI after I-84 crash sends 2 people to hospital in Boise
A suspected drunken driver caused a crash early Thursday morning that sent two people to the hospital, according to Idaho State Police.
The crash happened on westbound Interstate 184 in Boise. Baunsong Saengthip, 39, of Nampa, was westbound in a 2004 Lexus R33 SUV when he rear-ended the car in front of him, according to ISP. Saengthip was charged with felony driving under the influence of alcohol.
Debra Jones, 63, of Boise, was westbound in a 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage when Saengthip’s Lexus struck her vehicle, causing both to lose control, according to a news release from ISP. Both vehicles came to stops on the interstate.
Jones and a passenger in Saengthip’s vehicle were transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise by ground ambulance. Both drivers were wearing a seat belt, ISP said.
The crash is still under investigation, according to ISP. Saengthip’s next court appearance is set for Thursday afternoon.
