Body recovered on Snake River identified as Idaho woman missing since April 2018
A body found Sunday on the Snake River has been identified as a Grangeville woman missing since April 2018.
According to a Thursday night Facebook post by the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, the Nez Perce County Coroner’s Office positively identified a body found near the Buffalo Eddy Historic Park as Shawnta L. Pankey’s. She was last seen April 15, 2018.
Pankey was seen with her boyfriend that day at Pine Bar along the Salmon River south of Cottonwood, according to the Lewiston Tribune. Her boyfriend said that, after an argument, Pankey, who was 25-years-old at the time, took off on foot.
Pankey was reported missing the next day after failing to pick up her child, according to the Tribune.
In August 2018, Pankey’s family offered a $3,500 reward for information, “leading to the recovery of Shawnta, alive or deceased.”
