Nampa police identify woman who surrendered after 6.5-hour standoff
A woman wanted on a felony warrant surrendered peacefully to police late Tuesday afternoon, after a 6.5-hour standoff at a Nampa house.
She was identified as Susan Lee Swan, a 48-year-old Caldwell woman, police said in a press release. She was booked into the Canyon County jail on a $15,000 felony failure-to-appear warrant.
Swan walked out at about 4:30 p.m., a half hour after power was cut to the house.
Police said Swan barricaded herself inside a house in the 1300 block of South Garland Street at about 9:45 a.m. The homeowner had left the house before police arrived; it’s unclear what her relationship is to that person.
Responding officers heard a gunshot in the house at the start of the standoff, and several times she walked out of the house carrying a rifle.
Negotiators talked to Swan for hours. Sgt. Tim Riha said police did not push it because she was not a threat to anyone but herself.
This is a breaking news story that the Idaho Statesman will update later today.
