Boise State employee turns himself in after allegedly trying to hit man with car in 2016
A Boise State University employee surrendered to authorities Monday after court documents state he tried to hit another man multiple times with his car in December 2016.
Larry Jay Hallam, 57, was booked in the Ada County Jail on a felony count of aggravated assault and posted $10,000 bail on Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office’s jail roster and the Idaho court repository.
Hallam turned himself in to law enforcement on the active warrant, according to Ada County spokesman Patrick Orr.
According to a criminal complaint filed on Feb. 13, 2017, Hallam attempted to “threaten bodily harm and/or with a deadly weapon” by “swerving” his vehicle toward Jason Maestas on Dec. 17, 2016. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Feb. 13, 2017, as well.
Hallam is employed by Boise State University as an associate director as of Sept. 25, according to the state controller’s website. Boise State’s website lists him as a director of financial aid-systems and compliance, though the page has not been updated since 2016.
Boise State spokesman Greg Hahn confirmed Wednesday night that Hallam is still an employee at the university.
Hallam’s defense attorney Gabe Haws and the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office could also not be immediately reached for comment.
Hallam is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 11.
