Homemade bomb explodes in Shoshone mailbox, area is cordoned off
The Shoshone Police Department closed the 300 block of North Carmen Street on Wednesday after finding a homemade bomb had exploded in a mailbox, according to the Times-News.
The police department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area to a report of a suspicious incident, Chief Austin Smith and Sheriff Rene Rodriquez said in a joint statement.
The Twin Falls Police Bomb Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office helped investigate. The Bomb Squad destroyed the device.
“A thorough sweep of the area has been completed and it has been determined that this is an isolated incident,” Smith said in a later statement. “Residents are allowed to return to their homes.”
Police ask anyone who saw suspicious activity between Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. to call Shoshone police through SIRCOMM at 208-324-1911.
