Two vehicles were heavily damaged in a collision at Main and 27th streets in Boise Sunday afternoon.

Police say a 60-year-old Mountain Home driver ran a red light in a Boise intersection Sunday afternoon, resulting in a collision that turned his SUV on its side and ripped another vehicle’s hood off.

Manuel Gomez-Castaneda was charged with misdemeanor reckless driving, according to Boise police spokeswoman Haley Williams.

Williams said everyone in the vehicles was able to get out on their own after the crash. An emergency dispatcher said one person was taken from the scene to a local hospital. No information was available about the person taken to the hospital.

The collision occurred at about 3 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Main Street and 27th Street.

Police say Gomez-Castaneda was driving a 2005 Nissan Xterra north on 27th Street, when it ran a red light and collided with a 2006 Mazda in the intersection. The crash shut down Main Street for a short time.
