Meridian agrees to buy YMCA’s Homecourt for $4 million
According to a city news release Tuesday evening, the purchase agreement with the Treasure Valley Family YMCA will be executed on Sept. 30.
The Y is allocating the funds from the sale to the construction of a new full-service YMCA in South Meridian, near the intersection of Amity and Eagle roads, according to the news release.
The agreement was approved Tuesday evening by the Meridian City Council, but Homecourt will remain a YMCA membership facility until the South Meridian YMCA opens, which is projected for 2017, according to the news release. The city plans to add additional evening recreational opportunities at Homecourt beginning in the fall of 2016.
“This will increase the reach of both organizations," Treasure Valley YMCA President and CEO David Duro said. “We are so excited that the goal of bringing the Y’s focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility to South Meridian is becoming a reality."
Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd said the pact will give the city more space for indoor recreation and boost the Y's efforts to build a new facility adjacent to a new city park.
Homecourt is located near Downtown Meridian off Franklin Road at 936 Taylor Ave.
