A structure fire in a Meridian neighborhood left 10 people displaced, according to the city’s fire department.

On Wednesday night, firefighters responded to a fire in the 3600 block of South Orleans Place in Meridian. The fire had started on the home’s rear exterior, and extended into the attic and roof, according to a news release from the Meridian Fire Department. No one was injured, the agency said.

“Thanks to the quick actions of responding crews, the fire was brought under control before it could spread further and cause more extensive damage to the residence,” the Meridian Fire Department said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Meridian Fire Department said this incident “serves as an important reminder” that fires can spread rapidly, especially during the summer. The agency reminded residents to regularly inspect their homes for potential fire hazards, take preventative measures and maintain their smoke alarms.
