Ready for a bargain, Boise? Discount-designer fashion store is opening 2nd store
A major fashion retailer is coming to The Village at Meridian, just in time for the holiday shopping season.
Nordstrom Rack, the Seattle-based retailer known for offering designer clothing brands at a discount, is set to open the doors of its second Idaho store at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, with a grand opening ceremony an hour before.
The last time a Nordstrom Rack — Nordstrom’s discount branch — opened in the Treasure Valley, there were lines of shoppers out the door. That was in 2012 near the Boise Towne Square mall.
This time, the landmark Meridian shopping center on Eagle Road will offer the runway.
The new store at The Village joins Barnes & Noble in a space that used to be a Gordmans department store. Renovations were estimated at $2.4 million for the Nordstrom and shy of $500,000 for the Barnes & Noble, permits filed with the city of Meridian show. The Barnes & Noble is set to open its doors on Wednesday, Oct. 15, the Statesman recently reported.
Both retailers’ flagship stores in Boise will remain open.
According to a Facebook post from Nordstrom Rack, the new 25,000-square-foot store’s opening ceremony is planned for just outside the doors at 2260 N. Eagle Road, Suite 120, It’s expected to include giveaways, a DJ and refreshments, a Nordstrom spokesperson told the Idaho Statesman.
Attendees will have the chance to win a $1,000 Nordstrom Rack Gift Card, the Facebook post said.
The store will offer luxury brands of clothing, accessories, beauty products, shoes and home decor at discounts of up to 70% off. It also is expected to feature online-order pickup from Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com, plus returns.
The opening is hoped to grow Nordstrom’s Boise “footprint” and attract new customers in Meridian, said Gemma Lionelle, Nordstrom Rack president, a statement announcing the new store last year.
Nordstrom Inc first opened as a shoe retailer in 1901 and now has more than 350 stores, including more than 250 Nordstrom Rack stores in 41 states, according to its website.
“As a company we want to get closer to our customers and opening this store is part of our strategy to do that,” added spokesperson Manuela Uscher in an email response to an inquiry from the Statesman about whether the retailer plans additional Idaho stores.
