High school in Meridian placed on lockdown after report that student had firearm

Meridian’s Mountain View High School was placed on lockdown Thursday after a report around 2:30 p.m. that a student had a firearm, the Meridian Police Department said.

A student’s Snapchat message was reported as a “potential threat,” but police “determined there is no danger to our school community,” according to a message the West Ada School District sent to parents Thursday. Niki Scheppers, a spokesperson for the district, shared the message with the Idaho Statesman by email Friday.

Police determined that the student did not have a weapon, Jordan Robinson, a spokesperson for the department, told the Statesman by email.

The school lifted its lockdown shortly after and safely released students, he said. School resource officers remained on campus throughout students’ departure.

Reporter Rose Evans contributed.
