‘Total loss’: GoFundMe set up for family after ‘reported explosion,’ Meridian house fire
The Meridian Fire Department responded this week to a house fire that resulted in a “total loss,” and now there’s a GoFundMe set up to help the family rebuild, according to the fundraising page.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control, a news release said. The family and pets were able to get out safely, the GoFundMe said.
“There was a reported explosion, however the cause of the fire remains under investigation,” according to the release.
In addition to the house, the family’s vehicles also were a total loss, and they’ll need to replace belongings and find somewhere to stay, according to the GoFundMe.
So far more than $19,000 has been raised of a $20,000 goal.
The fire was still under investigation as of Wednesday by the Meridian Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to Meridian fire and police spokesperson Jordan Robinson.
The ATF got involved at the invitation of Meridian, according to Joel Miller, with the ATF Boise Field Office.
“Due to the nature of the incident they wanted assistance,” Miller told the Statesman. “Along with the standard explosives training that ATF special agents receive, I am also an ATF certified fire investigator. I was there to assist in any way I could with determining the origin and cause of the fire.”
