Meridian man hit a moose on his motorcycle. Now he needs help getting home, GoFundMe says
A Meridian Navy veteran is looking for help from the community to get back home after suffering serious injuries on a road trip.
On June 11, Elsworth Barrington suffered serious injuries after hitting a moose while he was riding his motorcycle from Bonner’s Ferry in North Idaho to Hamilton, Montana, according to a GoFundMe page. The moose jumped the guardrail and ran into Barrington, who was traveling roughly 30 mph, the page said.
Barrington suffered a brain injury, broken pelvis, cracked sternum and eight broken ribs, according to the page. He was airlifted to Kootenai County Hospital in Coeur d’Alene. Now his family is asking the community to help raise money to get him home through a medical transport.
Barrington has some medical insurance, but a number of his costs will not be covered. The GoFundMe page has asked for $100,000 to help get Barrington home and pay for the remainder of his medical bills. The page has raised $1,390 so far.
Barrington’s wife and family have already made the eight-hour trip from Meridian to the hospital twice — and they anticipate more trips as he continues to recover, according to the GoFundMe page.
