Meridian pedestrian dies while trying to cross I-84. Coroner releases victim’s name

A Meridian pedestrian died while crossing Interstate 84 after he was hit by a vehicle Wednesday night.

A 61-year-old woman from Caldwell was driving an SUV west on I-84 in Meridian at about 7:41 p.m. when she hit a pedestrian trying to cross the roadway just west of exit 44, the Idaho State Police said in a news release. He was then struck by multiple vehicles and pronounced dead an hour later, according to the Ada County Coroner’s Office.

The Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Randell Crocker, 61, of Meridian. The coroner listed “multiple blunt force injuries” as the cause of Crocker’s death, while the manner of death was still pending.

Traffic was blocked for 5 hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved and clear the scene, police said.

The Idaho State Police said it’s investigating the incident.
