Update: Meridian apartment resident rescued from balcony after complex catches fire
Meridian and Boise fire departments responded to a structure fire at the Foothills Apartments in Meridian, according to city spokesperson Kelsey Johnston and a news release from the department.
At 11:15 a.m. a Meridian fire engine was leaving another call when firefighters noticed an unreported fire at the apartment complex, which is located at 2314 E. Franklin Road, the release said.
The release said the engine self-assigned to the call and began to fire vent the two-story apartment from the roof. Firefighters rescued one resident from a balcony of a second-floor apartment as “smoke and fire billowed out,” according to the news release.
No one was injured and two cats were also rescued. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A total of six engines, one ladder truck and a battalion chief responded from both the Meridian and Boise fire departments.
The fire impacted two stories and four units within the apartment complex. Relief for any families that were displaced will be provided by the Meridian Firefighters Benevolent Fund, the release said. The Red Cross was called.
“The Meridian Fire Department would like to thank the Meridian Police Department, Boise Fire Department, Ada County Paramedics, and Intermountain Gas for their assistance with today’s fire,” the Meridian Fire Department said.
