That long-awaited WinCo on Overland in Meridian? It won’t be built. This is what we know

After years of waiting for a new WinCo near the Overland and Eagle intersection, Meridian residents can be sure the grocery store is not coming to fruition Meridian planners said WinCo sold the property to likely become apartments instead.

Last year, developers Morgan Holdings and Stone Hill, from Colorado and Las Vegas, got the green light from the city to develop the first phase of The Seasons at Meridian, an complex of 360 apartments at 2700 W. Overland Road, just west of Eagle Road.

WinCo owned the property and had proposed that a WinCo supermarket be constructed on the parcel next to The Seasons. That plan was scrapped last summer, city filings show.

“Based on my discussions with the developer of the apartments, WinCo is not planning on constructing a new store in this location,” said Bill Parsons, planning supervisor for Meridian, in an email to the Idaho Statesman.

Now, Morgan Stone Hill, a company that includes both Morgan Holdings and Stone Hill, is requesting a development agreement to build another apartment complex. According to city filings, the complex would consist of 10 three-story buildings with 360 apartments.

The complex would also include a one-story amenity complex with a leasing office, pool, lounge and fitness center. It would include a dog wash and ski and bike repair area. The complex would be on nearly 16 acres.

The city is processing the development agreement for the new apartment complex, Parsons said.

The Idaho Statesman reported last year that The Seasons apartments would be completed in 2024. Construction is underway, Parsons said.

WinCo did not immediately respond to a request for comment on why it sold the property.
