Meridian students, teachers will join in shooter response drill today

Students and teachers will play roles in a large-scale active shooter training scenario Thursday morning at Sawtooth Middle School put on by local emergency agencies and the West Ada School District.

The Meridian Police Department, Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Ada Paramedics, Meridian Fire Department and the school will hold the drill from 8:00 am to 11 am.

The scenario was developed to provide a real life like incident for school resource officers, fire/paramedics, command staff and the West Ada crisis response team. This scenario is designed to hone multi-agency communication, response, tactics/movements, overall decision-making and reunification.

Property and buildings at Sawtooth Middle School will be restricted to those participating in the scenario. Training signs will be placed around the perimeter of the school grounds indicating that this is alerting the public this is a law enforcement training exercise.

A command post and media staging will be set up on the south side of the LDS Church located at 5501 N. Meridian Road.
