A fund has been set up to help the family of Bert Smith, Jr., the Caldwell man who died Tuesday when the trench he was working in collapsed in Boise
Contributions to the benefits account for Misty Smith can be made at any branch of D.L. Evans bank, the Smiths' friend Natasha Noll said Friday. Bert and Misty Smith have three children and a fourth on the way.
Smith, 36, and Ernesto Saucedo-Zapata, 26, of Nampa both died in the incident. A third worker survived and was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the fatal incident, which happened while the crew was digging a path for a sewer line on Gary Lane near Hill Road.
