Mountain Home man cited in accident that injured ISP officer

A Mountain Home man involved in an accident that injured three people, including an Idaho State Police trooper, was cited for inattentive driving, according to the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Fred Busing, 68, of Mountain Home was driving a 2004 Dodge pickup west on Interstate 84 and attempted to change to the right lane near McDermott Road just before 3 p.m.

Busing reportedly hit the back of a a semitrailer, which pushed him back and he sideswiped a pulled-over pickup truck. The pulled-over 1993 Ford pickup was driven by Kinley Favinger, 49, of Caldwell. ISP Sgt. Matt Smith had pulled Favinger over, parked his motorcycle behind Favinger and was standing on the passenger side of the vehicle when Busing sideswiped the Ford.

Smith was knocked over the barrier, but not seriously injured, according to ISP.

The two pickup drivers were more seriously injured and were transported to the hospital; Canyon County was not able to provide details on their health status.

The driver of the semitrailer has not been publicly identified.

The sheriff’s office is handling the investigation because of the ISP trooper’s involvement.
