Police: Citation or charges likely in fatal Nampa overpass crash

Idaho State Police anticipate they will issue a citation or press charges against the driver who crashed off a Nampa overpass into another vehicle around 5 a.m. March 29, according to spokeswoman Teresa Baker.

A Chevrolet Impala driven by Tyler Callahan, 21, of Weiser, veered off the Interstate 84 overpass crossing Northside Boulevard and crashed into a pickup truck driven by John Pew, 64, of Nampa. Pew was transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, where he later died. Callahan and two occupants of his Impala, both juveniles, were hospitalized as well. Callahan was initially admitted in serious condition, but was later released from the hospital. Details on the juveniles have not been available.

ISP is still working through a crash reconstruction report and a toxicology test. Because of the type of crash, Baker said, it is likely that Callahan will face either a citation or charges for his reported part in the incident.

“Due to the nature of that crash, and it being a fatality (crash), I’m sure there will be some sort of citation or charge,” Baker said.
