Caldwell shooting victim critical; police work to identify suspects

A 17-year-old boy shot outside his Caldwell home late Monday has yet to regain consciousness, but police are hopeful he'll be able to identify his attackers, Caldwell Police Cpl. Scott Crupper said Tuesday evening.

The teen was shot multiple times just before midnight in the 2700 block of Arrowhead Drive off East Linden Street, police said. The victim was in an altercation with two people, one of whom had a gun while the other had a knife, Crupper said. The attackers fled the scene, he said, but three people witnessed the shooting. Those witnesses could not identify the suspects, he said, but police believe the victim knew them.

"We've talked to all the witnesses," Crupper said. "The victim isn't able to communicate; he's unconscious. The leads we have at this point are best guesses."

The shooting might be gang-related, he said, but investigators won't be able to confirm that until they have identified the suspects.

As of Tuesday night the victim was stable and in critical condition at a Boise hospital, Crupper said. Police are following numerous leads and hope to get more information after the victim regains consciousness, he said.

Caldwell police detectives spent the night at the scene interviewing multiple witnesses.
