Benefit auction, show planned for Caldwell coffee house's mainstay

The Bird Stop Coffee House in Downtown Caldwell has been closed much of this week after a family member who helps run the place suffered a medical emergency, event organizers said.

A "Come Together for Mitch Kelly" fund-raiser is planned from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bird Stop, 702 Main St. A live auction is scheduled for 6 p.m. with a wide array of donated items, and musical performances will precede and follow the auction. Tickets to attend inside the Bird Stop cost $2, with no admission cost for the outdoor beer garden.

Kelly, whose family runs the popular downtown business, suffered a minor stroke that led doctors to discover a large brain tumor, and surgery is needed to remove it, benefit organizers said. Donations and ticket purchases can be made on eventbrite.
