Therapist accused of slapping child resigns from Canyon school

The Vallivue School District Board of Trustees accepted Lisa Carriere's resignation without discussion at the board's Tuesday meeting, Superintendent Pat Charlton told KIVI-TV, Channel 6.

Carriere, 47, faces a misdemeanor charge and a threatened lawsuit for allegedly slapping a nonverbal 6-year-old with autism on Jan. 5 at West Canyon Elementary School in Caldwell.

The boy's family filed a tort claim seeking $2500 in damages. The claim states the child had a red hand-shaped mark on his face as well as swelling, a loosened tooth and an abrasion inside of his mouth.

Carriere is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on the injury to a child charge on March 30.
