The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting and trying to determine whether it was a crime or an accident.
The 55-year-old gunshot victim arrived at the Middleton fire station about 2:15 p.m.. He was driven there by his 80-year-old father, who had fired the shot, Canyon County spokesman Joe Decker said.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting was intentional or accidental, Decker said, and no decision has been made yet about what, if any, charges will be filed.
Father and son were reportedly fighting at a home in the 23000 block of Duff Lane northeast of Middleton when the son was shot. The son received emergency medical care at the fire station before he was taken by ambulance to a Boise hospital, according to a Canyon County news release.
Further information about the shooting and the son’s medical condition was not available Monday evening.
