Man shot by Homedale police dies

Gilbert Heredia, who was shot by Homedale police during an encounter outside of a house, has died, according to the Ada County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office could not say when Heredia died but said full details will be released Monday.

Two officers were involved in the shooting last Saturday, Dec. 26.

Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue said Monday that officers had gone to the house to help with a custody transfer of four children, from Heredia to their mother. The mother was not there, and no one else was outside the house when Heredia was shot, he said.

Police were called to the home several times in the two days before the shooting.

Donahue said investigators believe Heredia and both officers fired their guns.

Donahue’s office is leading an investigation into the shooting. The officers are on paid administrative leave.
