Caldwell teen dies in vehicle crash in Canyon County

An 18-year-old Caldwell woman died Saturday night in a vehicle crash on State Highway 55 at Chicken Dinner Road, according to Idaho State Police.

Carolina Estrada-Hernandez, 18, of Caldwell was driving south on 55 in a 2001 Ford Taurus when she crossed the center line and crashed into Melissa Loucks, 39, of Marsing, driving a 2012 Ford Fusion around 6:45 p.m.

The Taurus flipped over onto its top and a passenger, Vanessa Mendoza, 18, of Caldwell, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was injured in the crash. She was transported to the hospital, but didn’t survive her injuries, according to police.

Five passengers from Loucks’ vehicle were transported to the hospital, including two juveniles. Their status is unknown. None of Loucks’ passengers were wearing seatbelts and only one in Estrada-Hernandez’s vehicle was wearing a seatbelt, according to ISP.
