Chain-reaction crash in Idaho sends car slamming into gas station fuel pump
A dramatic scene unfolded Tuesday afternoon at a gas station in Caldwell after a chain-reaction crash, according to a news release from the Caldwell Fire Department.
After being rear-ended by another vehicle, a car left the roadway, struck a gas pump and became wedged between another vehicle and the pump, the release said. The collision caused a fuel leak, prompting firefighters to evacuate the area as emergency crews worked to secure the scene, stop the leak and ensure the area was safe.
The accident was reported at 12:53 p.m., according to Caldwell Fire, near North Illinois Avenue and Marble Front Road.
Officials speculate the car may have left the roadway after the collision because of an equipment malfunction.
Despite the dramatic nature of the accident, only two people sustained minor injuries, the release said.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
