Two kids on scooter hit and injured in Caldwell. Police say they were at fault
Two boys were hit by a vehicle and injured in Caldwell on Thursday morning while riding on the same scooter near Paynter Avenue and Simplot Boulevard, police spokesperson Dawn Marchetti told the Idaho Statesman in an email.
The teenager operating the scooter was cited with a misdemeanor for failing to yield to traffic, Marchetti said.
Caldwell police officers responded at around 11:14 a.m. to a vehicle and pedestrian collision, Marchetti said. The two boys, ages 14 and 9, were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, she said, and the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated.
The 14-year-old suffered moderate injuries and the younger child had only minor injuries, according to Marchetti.
Idaho State Police also responded to help investigate, Marchetti said, and the road was closed until 1:30 p.m.
Marchetti said the boys failed to yield the right of way, causing the accident. The 14-year-old and his family can pay the fine for the citation that was issued or choose to attend court, Marchetti said.
