Canyon County officials on Tuesday night identified a 62-year-old man whose body was found in a Caldwell canal earlier in the day.

The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the body of Robert W. Nourse, of Nampa, was found around 2:40 p.m. when deputies responded to a call about a body in the canal near Malt and Karcher roads northwest of Lake Lowell.

According to the news release, the county coroner’s office will perform an autopsy Wednesday morning, but no foul play is suspected. Officials said the initial investigation indicates Nourse was fishing in the spillway below the lower dam at Lake Lowell before he fell into the water.

“At this point in the investigation, everything suggests this was a tragic and unfortunate accident,” Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue said in the news release.
