A man police say was wanted on a felony warrant was fatally shot by Nampa police during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon.

Just after 2 p.m., two Nampa Police Department officers pulled over a car at N. 21st Street and Industrial Road, according to a press release. A known suspect with a confirmed felony warrant was in the car, “reportedly armed with a gun,” police said.

The Nampa department said that during the traffic stop, the man in the passenger seat presented a handgun and did not follow officers’ commands. Both police officers then fired their weapons.

The passenger was struck by multiple shots, police said, and he was pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving attempts were made.

The driver of the car has non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the hands, according to the release.

This was the first Nampa police shooting of 2026. In 2025, NPD was involved in two shootings, both of them nonfatal.

The Caldwell Police Department is leading the Canyon County Critical Incident Task Force investigation into the shooting.
